School-Aged Language Groups

In our language groups, children are supported to learn to use and understand language structures (vocabulary and grammar) in fun and functional ways, for example using games and other fun activities. These groups are run by our wonderful allied health assistants, who are closely supervised by a speech pathologist.

We also now have the amazing Story Champs program - which is an evidence based systematic approach to support oral language and listening skills in children aged 5-10.

Who are AHA Language Groups for? Children aged 4-12 who have delays in their expressive or receptive language.

What is the cost? The sessions range in cost, from $40 for a group, to $86.79 for an individual session. NDIS funding covers these groups.

Jemma has been absolutely amazing in supporting Mia in both language and social engagement. She creates such a warm, comfortable and fun environment for the children. Mia is beyond excited to attend these sessions and gains so much from Jemma's fun and professional methods. I highly recommend her.

At The Happy Space, we recognise and respect the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land on which we work, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and to their Elders, past, present, and emerging.

The area around Footscray was originally home to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation for more than 40,000 years. Maribyrnong is an anglicised version of the Aboriginal term 'Mirring-gnay-bir-nong', which translates as 'I can hear a ringtail possum'.
