More Than Words

Hanen's More Than Words is the gold-standard, evidence-based program for parents of children who are autistic or who have social communication difficulties, where you will learn practical strategies that you can use in everyday situations to facilitate and encourage language and social interaction.

What is it?

A 5-week long, evidence based program to give you the tools and strategies to support your child's communication development.
It involves:

  • 5 weekly group zoom sessions (parent only) where we go over strategies, as well as watch videos of strategies in action.

  • 1 initial individual drop-in session on Zoom or in clinic to evaluate your child's level of development

  • 1 follow-up drop-in session on Zoom or in clinic to problem solve and support strategy use.

When is it?

The sessions will be online on Tuesday evenings, 8-9:30pm.

  • 3rd October

  • 10th October

  • 17th October

  • 24th October

  • 31st October

  • 7th November

What is the evidence?

All of the strategies in the More Than Words program are drawn from research and have been shown to improve the social communication skills of children on the autism spectrum.

Mother and Daughter Using Laptop

This is covered by NDIS funding. If you do not have NDIS funding we are happy to discuss offering the program at a reduced rate.

At The Happy Space, we recognise and respect the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land on which we work, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and to their Elders, past, present, and emerging.

The area around Footscray was originally home to the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and the Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation for more than 40,000 years. Maribyrnong is an anglicised version of the Aboriginal term 'Mirring-gnay-bir-nong', which translates as 'I can hear a ringtail possum'.
